Clothing Drive for Orphans in Chernivtsi

This post was written by our German operative Arcaist.

UFL’s mission has been clear since the beginning of the russia’s full-scale invasion. It’s our job to supply Ukraine’s army with everything they need to achieve their ultimate goal: driving the despicable invaders from their homeland. Whether it be medical supplies, night vision devices, radios, or winter uniforms, whatever these men and women need will be legally acquired and delivered to them.

But besides killing Ukrainian men and women at the frontline, russians terrorize the civilians of the country they invaded. Every time we talk to our friends in Ukraine, we hear more about the suffering of her people there.

One particular story caught Arcaist’s attention: an orphanage in the city of Chernivtsi was in dire need of clothing for children aged newborn to 16 years. Over the past month, too many new children had come in who’d literally lost everything, including their parents, to russia’s terrorism.

The solution was simple: help the orphanage to get as much clothing as possible. Our German branch started a local collection, asking people for kids’ clothing in very good condition.

Several bags of children’s clothing for all age ranges were soon collected.

Unfortunately, some sizes were in short supply, particularly toddlers’ sizes. In order to buy them, we created quite a collection of decorative items to be sold at several Easter markets.

With the money they raised, we were soon able to purchase the missing clothes.

The wonderful Elena and Julia

Soon afterward, an entire vanload of bags full of children’s clothing could be handed over to Elena and Julia. Both have helped us in the past getting valuable shipments to Ukraine. They were also the ones who approached UFL about possibly helping the orphanage.

We were happy to hand over not just several bags of children’s clothing but also 60 bars of chocolate donated by the German fair trade company GEPA.

Donations at the orphanage in Chernivtsi

One week later, the first delivery of clothes arrived in Chernivtsi.

The combined effort of a few volunteers made a big difference for these kids. This was important to us, because all too often, it’s forgotten that it is they who suffer the most.

If you want to help as well, feel free to support UFL´s mission by donating to our current fundraisers. Or if you have spare military clothing or gear (not ITAR-controlled), drones, or similar items of possible value to the Ukrainian war effort, feel free to contact us.
